In Memoriam

Edward S. Smith passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2015. He was the loving husband of Evelyne Smith for 67 years.

Born June 30, 1923 in Garden City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward and Florence Smith. Edward was formerly of Mineola, Long Island, until he retired to Highland Lake in Winsted.

He was a successful businessman, founding Smith & DeGroat Real Estate in 1944, which is still in operation today. He was a devoted public servant representing the Village of Mineola as mayor. He is the name sake for the “Edward Smith” Mineola Lions Club.

Above all else, he had a great love for his family. He leaves three sons, Edward (Cindi), Mark (Dawn) and Matthew (Joanne); grandchildren Samantha, Patrick, Peder, Sean, Edward, David, Michael, Jarrod, Calvin; and great-grandchildren Mason, Alex and Desiree.
