The Lions Eye Bank for Long Island
The Lions Eye Bank for Long Island, a not-for-profit eye bank, was established at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, New York in 1986 with the help of our local Lions Clubs. This locally-based Eye Bank has as its chief purpose to serve the needs of Long Island and the surrounding communities by providing superior quality ocular tissue for corneal and scleral transplantation surgery. We also provide this tissue for the use of education and research programs throughout the U.S.A. . This effort is supported enthusiastically by the many thousand members of the Lions Clubs of Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens. We are a three year fully accredited member of the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA).
The Long Island Bombers
The Long Island Bombers are a dedicated group of baseball enthusiasts from the Long Island and Tri-state area. They just happen to be blind and visually impaired. They hold rigorous practices, instructional clinics and play exhibition and competitive games against sighted and other visually impaired teams in the Metropolitan area. The combined efforts of our players, volunteers and supporters are what make the Long Island Bombers successful.
The Elena Melius Foundation was founded in 1986 by the Melius Family in loving memory of Mrs. Elena Julia Melius, mother to Gary Melius. Elena was a special woman who brought joy and laughter to every life she touched. To continue her legacy this not-for-profit foundation was formed to strongly support local charities and organizations primarily concerned with the health and welfare of children.
