Mineola High School Students Awarded with Scholarships

On June 8, 2016, members of The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club presented college scholarships to four outstanding Mineola High School seniors during the school’s annual Senior Awards Breakfast. The scholarship search conducted by The Mineola Lions Club looks for well-rounded students, who have excelled academically over the years and participated in various extracurricular activities and community organizations. The four awarded students, Mari (Marcko) Seno, Emily Skupp, Aline Muller and Leticia Barreto, exceeded all expectations, and it was an honor providing them with a jumpstart to their bright futures, with $1,500 scholarships.

Leticia Barreto participates in soccer, lacrosse and track. Barreto also finds time to volunteer for peer tutoring, PTA babysitting, nursing home assistance and at The INN Soup Kitchen. She is also a proud member of the Anti-Bullying Club. Barreto wishes to attend Farmingdale State College and pursue Occupational Therapy.

Senior year president, Aline Muller, plays Varsity Lacrosse and participates in a number of clubs including, Mock Trial, Yearbook and Student Government. Muller also assists in the American Red Cross and Student Service Center. Aline Muller aspires to attend St. John’s or James Madison universities.

Mari (Marcko) Seno hopes to attend Quinnipiac University and pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant in the fall. Seno is part of the Junior Varsity Bowling team and participates in the Literary Society, Japanese Anime Club, Gay-Straight Alliance, Student Service Center and Lunch Bunch. He is also a class volunteer and student organization representative.

Emily Skupp is a talented athlete who has played Varsity Softball throughout her high school career, as well as Varsity Track and Cross Country. Skupp is part of the National Honor Society and volunteers as a Physics peer tutor. She also participates in the Lunch Bunch, Ronald McDonald House, Brainstormers, School Musical Stage Crew and much more. Skupp will attend Salve Regina University and pursue Forensic Psychology-Law.

The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club would like to congratulate Leticia, Aline, Marcko and Emily on their high school graduation and wish them the best of luck towards their bright futures.
