Honoring The Schwagerl Family
This year, the Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club will be honoring the Schwagerl Family. The family has long been involved with the club for 12+ years with current members including four siblings, Michael, Matthew, Robert, and Anthony.
“We are especially delighted to receive this honor because of the remarkable work the Edward Smith Mineola Lions accomplishes… It really is an important resource for many in this community, and we are fortunate to belong to a group that financially supports so many local charities and philanthropic causes. We are truly fortuitous to be a part of such an admirable organization” – The Schwagerl Family
Since our founding in 1952, The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club has contributed over a million dollars to charities that benefit the blind and those helping individuals who may be susceptible to becoming blind. We have provided funds for organizations such as the:
- NYU Winthrop Diabetes and Obesity Institute
- Guide Dog Foundation
- Helen Keller Services for the Blind
- Foundation for Sight and Sound
- Long Island Bombers (blind softball team)
There are others that have also benefited from our donations. Since this is totally a volunteer organization, all net proceeds from Brian Saloy Memorial Golf Outing will be donated to charities for the blind. In addition, a portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Mineola High School Scholarship Fund and the Special Olympics of Long Island and Connecticut.
