7/1/2011 - Mineola Lions Award Scholarships to
Mineola High School Students

At the recent Mineola H.S. Senior Awards breakfast the Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club presented students Katie Dul and Olivia Rodrigues with $2000 scholarships. In their years at Mineola H.S., Katie and Olivia excelled academically, participated in a wide variety of activities and volunteered their time to various causes.

6/4/2011 - MINEOLA LIONS DONATES
FUNDS TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club continued its generous support of local community organizations by donating $1000 to the Mineola Ambulance Corps and 500 to the Mineola Auxiliary Police. “We are proud to support these terrific organizations that do so much to protect the health and safety of the residents of Mineola.”

9/6/2010 - Mineola Lions president Chris Lopez recognized
by county executive Ed Mangano

Chris Lopez, President of the Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club was recently recognized for his dedicated service to the community by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. Under Chris' leadership, the club raised and donated tens of thousands of dollars to worthy causes.

Chris Lopez is a physical therapist and partner at Physical Solutions, with offices in Mineola and Bethpage.



5/26/2010 - Taste of the Grape

The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club had a busy summer of serving the community. The Club raised $27,000 at its annual "Taste of the Grape" wine tasting at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. The event was attended by over 200 supporters, who sampled the selection of fine wines, as well as the delicious foods donated by local restaurants. Proceeds from the event are donated to organizations such as the Guide Dog Foundation, Lions Long Island Eye Bank, Winthrop Diabetes Prevention Center and many community groups. Mineola Lions Club Helping the Long Island Bombers

The Club donated $1000 to the Long Island Bombers Softball Team. The team provides blind and visually impaired participants an opportunity to play a version of softball that features a beeping ball and other modifications. Lion Secretary Dave Tanner, Tailtwister Tom Jacoberger, President Chris Lopez, and Treasurer Mike Schwargel are shown in the attached photo presenting the Club’s $1000 donation to representatives of the LI Bombers.



Mineola Lions Club Donates 1000 Pairs of Eyeglasses

Club members also collected and donated more than 1000 pairs of eyeglasses to the Lions recycling center. Shown in the attached photo are President Chris Lopez, past President Rick Volpe, and member Neil Filomena at the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center making the donation on behalf of the Club.



Mineola Lions Donates $5000 To The Center For Developmental Disabilities!

The Mineola Lions Club has donated $5000 to the Center for Developmental Disabilities.

This Center for Developmental Disabilities, Inc. has been proudly serving people with autism, mental retardation, and other forms of developmental disabilities for 50 years. The Center helps people with developmental disabilities create lives filled with dignity, respect and of meaning.

$10,000 Donation to Brookville Center for Children's Services!

December 15, 2009. The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club recently donated $10,000 to benefit the Brookville Center for Children's Services (BCCS) Autism Program, an affiliate of AHRC Nassau. The Mineola Lions Club has generously donated $40,000 in the last four years to the Autism Program. Lions Clubs Donates 1000 Pairs of Eyeglasses

In the below photo, Mineola Lions Club President Chris Lopez, and Immediate Past President Rick Volpe are shown shipping 1055 pairs of eyeglasses to Lions Eyeglass Recycling in Roanoke Virginia.  The eyeglasses were collected by the Long island City-Astoria Lions Club and brought to the Mineola Lions Club for packaging and shipment to the recycling center in Wisconsin.

 



Rick Volpe Honored

Mineola Lion President Rick Volpe was recently honored for his community service by the Mineola Garden City Rotary Club. Through Rick’s leadership the Edward Smith Mineola Lions has donated tens of thousands of dollars to worthy causes in the community, including a diabetes prevention center at Winthrop Hospital and the Lions Blind Fund. Rick is also the Vice President of Van Buren Truck Sales in Garden City Park, which has been very supportive of community organizations and events for many years.

Dear Secretary David Tanner,

It was a real-pleasure to speak with you today on the phone! As I said earlier, the entire District 20-K2 is very proud of the Mineola Lions Club, its ability to enjoy this world's society so well and its ability to give so generously of service and donations to those in need.
